About the Quran
" When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy. " Quran 7:204 Al-Quran is the eternal miracle. It is the last Book of Allah sent for the guidance of humanity through the last Prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him (PBUH). Revelation of the QuranThe Quran was revealed piecemeal throughout a period of about 23 years. The Prophet received the first revelation in 610CE, in the Cave of Hira in the Mountain of Light (Jabale-Noor), two and a half miles away from the House of Allah in the city of Makkah in Arabia. The first revelation was the first five verses of Surah (chapter) Al-Alaq: "Iqra bismi rabbikalla dhi khalaq. Khalaqal insana min alaq. Iqra wa rabbukal akram. Alladhi 'allama bil qalam. 'Allamal insana malam ya’lam, " which means "Read in the name of your Lord who created, created man from a clot. Read, for your Lord is most Generous, Who teaches by means of the pen, teaches man what he does not know." (96: 1-5) The last revelation was the third verse of Surah Al-Maidah, which was sent down to the Prophet in 632 C.E. : "Al yawma akmaltu lakum dinakam wa atmamtu alaikam ni'mati wa raditu' lakumul islama dinan''," which means "Today I perfected your religion for you and completed my favor to you and have chosen for you Al-Islam as your religion." (5:3) Surah Al-Fatiha (The Opening Chapter) was the first complete chapter to be revealed and Surah An-Nasr was the last. |

Reading the Quran: Some Guidelines
The following guidelines have been deduced from the Quran about reading, reciting or rehearsing the Quran:
1. Read the Quran on a regular basis so that you may not forget
"We will make you recite so you shall not forget " [87:6]
2. "When you read the Qur'an, seek Allah's protection and preservation from any damned and condemned faculty, power, or propensity (that may drive you away from the real benefit of reading the quran) [alshshaytani alrrajeemi]"
[16:98]
3. Read the Quran in slow, well-arranged stages, gradually
"Those who reject Faith say: "Why is not the Qur'an revealed to him all at once? Thus (is it revealed), that We may strengthen your heart thereby, and We have rehearsed it to you in slow, well-arranged stages, gradually. " [25:32]
"...and recite the Qur'an in slow, well-arranged stages, gradually." [73:4]
4. Read from the Quran as much as is easy for you at a time
"Behold, (O Messenger!) Your Lord is fully Aware (that you are dedicated to your Mission). There are nights when you stay up working two thirds, one half, or one third of the night as do your companions. But Allah has designed night and day. You and your companions cannot over-work indefinitely. So He turns to you in kindness. (He does not ordain for you hardship). Inculcate, then, as much of the Qur'anic teachings in their hearts as you may do with ease. He knows that among you are sick people, and others have to earn their living and travel for it. And those who have to fight in the Cause of Allah. Recite and convey the Qur’an, then, at ease. And establish the Divine System and set up the Just Economic Order. And lend unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatever good you send forth for your ‘Selves’ you will find with Allah, better and more excellent in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Behold, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." [73:20]
5. "When the Qur'an is recited, listen to it with attention and remain silent so that you may be benefited."
[7:204]
6. Remember that the purpose is not just to recite the Quran but to follow itand bow in submission
"Once we have recited it then follow you the recital" [75:18]
Quran says about the non-believers that they do not bow in submission, when the Quran is recited to them.
"And when the Qur'an is recited unto them, they do not make obeisance;" [84:21]
Why was the Quran revealed in Arabic?
The following reasons have been given in the Qur'an for its revelation in Arabic language:
1. Arabic was the language of the people where it was revealed
"And thus: We have revealed to you a Qur'an in Arabic so that you may warn the Foremost of all towns and those who dwell around it, and may warn of the Day of Gathering, which is beyond all doubt. One group will be in the Garden, and one group will be in the Flames." [42:7]
2. To explain it without any want of clarity, distinctness or perspicuousness
"Now if We had made it a Qur'an in a non-Arabic tongue they would surely have said, "Why is it that its verses have not been made clear? Why - a foreign tongue and an Arab?" Say, "For those who accept it, this is a Guidance and medicine for a wholesome life. But as for those who will not believe (Arabs or non-Arabs), in their ears is deafness, and so it remains obscure to them. They are like people who are called to from afar." [41:44]
3. To make it easy to understand
"Behold, We have sent it down in all clarity, in the Arabic tongue, so that you might encompass it with your reason." [12:2]
"Behold, We have made it a Qur'an in clear Arabic language that you may fully understand." [43:3]
Arabic was the most advanced and comprehensive language at the time when Qur'an was being revealed and it still is the most comprehensive. The terms, concepts and themes would be best clarified and explained in Arabic language and last but not the least, it was the language of the people where it was revealed.

Who are the True Believers in the Quran?
Only those believe TRULY in the Revelations of Allah, who, when these are brought to their attention, fall down in complete submission and actively and incessantly occupy themselves to work for the manifestation of the Glory of their Guardian-Lord, without showing any arrogance or pride [32:15].
These people are not swayed by emotions and they take every step after a lot of deliberation, so much so that even when the Revelations of their Guardian-Lord are presented to them, they do not fall upon these by ignoring their intellect, wisdom, rationale and reason [17:36, 25:73].
They do not behave as if they were deaf and blind. They adopt the Divine Laws only after careful consideration and pondering over them. These people follow the Book of Allah as it should be followed. These are the ones who really believe therein [2:121].
Verily, only those believe in our Revelations, who, when these are brought to their attention fall down in complete submission and actively and incessantly occupy themselves to work for the manifestation of the Glory of their Guardian-Lord, without showing any arrogance or pride [32:15]
"And do not follow (blindly) any information of which you have no (direct) knowledge. (Using your faculties of perception and conception, you must verify it for yourself. (In the Court of your Guardian-Lord,) you will be held accountable for your hearing, sight, and the faculty of reasoning."[17:36]
وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ لَمْ يَخِرُّوا عَلَيْهَا صُمًّا وَعُمْيَانًا
When the Revelations of their Guardian-Lord are brought to their attention, they do not fall upon these, deaf and blind (ignoring their intellect, wisdom, rationale and reason) [25:73]
الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَتْلُونَهُ حَقَّ تِلاوَتِهِ أُولَئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ
They, to whom We have given the Book, follow it as it deserves to be followed. It is they who truly believe in it [2:121].
